Hey guys,
I've been breathing new life into my old desktop so I can run Orange Box on it (I have a serious weakness for Half life). Anyway, I've got a P4 2.66, 128mb Radeon 9700 Pro and now I just need a bit more memory to get this thing to run halfway decent. The mobo came with with 512 (PC2100 266, 2x256) in it and has always worked fine. I went on ebay and picked up 2gb (2x1gb), but it wouldn't work for me. I got three long beep codes upon startup (indicating a RAM problem). I switched the 512 back in, and had no problems.
So, my question is, can I go for 2gb or should I just shoot for 1gb total for this? Is 333 compatible (and worthwhile) with 266? I'll get ECC if possible, but this is only going to run a couple games and then be a media center/server through ubuntu.
The mobo in question. D845EBT
The RAM that did not work.
Thanks for any insight you can share with me!
