I've often thought about just buying a new printer instead of ink, these types of deals makes it seem worthwhile.....

anyone want a printer with no ink for $10 :P

It makes sense you get newer sometimes better tech and you get ink again for a fraction of the cost in this case.

Most new printers these days come with "evaluation" or "sample" cartridges that basically contain enough ink to print a single page before telling you it's out. Buying one solely for the ink doesn't necessarily represent value for money any longer.

you got facts to backup that claim?  I know they come with smaller cartridges, but ive never seen a printer that would only get 1 page out of them.  My last one lasted me about 4 months before I ran out of ink.  Mostly I was just printed pictures for the kids to colour in and put on their walls, so not heavy use.

Would be nice if the printer stated how much ink it came with, I guess google would tell you...

Its not just that the cart is smaller, its that on the first loading of the printer it has to pull ink thru all the hoses etc making sure there is no air left in the lines or the head may burn out. Same thing happens but to a lesser degree when you change cartridges, which is why changing just the one that is out is foolish.

Wasnt that Z brand of printers taken to court in the USA a couple of years ago for overpriced ink cartridges?

I think there needs to be some sort of extension to the consumables and spare parts supply rules that state they must be available at acceptable pricing to discourage this sort of behaviour.

The one page was a sarcastic comment - but it would certainly be nice to know how much ink was in these new printers.

They usually say "starter" cartridge on the side of the box under the included parts list.
I think some brother printers give you the toner model number that it comes with which has a smaller page count than the normal toner pack you buy.

Canon lists the NORMAL carts as Hi-Capacity (for my printer). I guess that way they can get away with NOT listing the bogus small carts as 'starter' carts.
Its a scam have 2 ink cart sizes. I just buy generic inks, at least they are all hi-capacity ie normal sized.
