Time for a new pc. (budget >3k)
Self build in the past but this time, I cant be bothered with the hassle.

Contact two local companies.
      Company one no reply.......

Company two, reply 3 days later, some discussion about options, quotes etc. Further email pretty much confirming I'm happy, lets move forward. Silience........

Give your details to a real estate agent or car salesman and you have to change your email address to get them to go away.
Obviously the local pc assembly industry is going great guns if they are happy to ignore a potential 3k sale..

Rant off

No, thats just typical NZ cant be bothered customer service.

I needed a plumber so started calling the closest one to me on google maps, then the next, then the next. 3rd go the person who answered the phone was able to make an appointment.

The first 2 that I left messages with, one with a stoned sounding teenager and one on a voicemail never got back to me.

I'm curious, what are you expecting to get for 3K in terms of specs?

Actually the OP says greater than 3k, so that's one wicked budget for a PC.

Were either of the companies you contacted Computer Lounge? (If not, that's where you've gone wrong. :p If so I'm somewhat surprised.)

In the past when I enquired about about a new build, I emailed a few companies, and they were one, and they were one that didn't  reply. That was a few years ago though. It may depend on their workload at the time whether they want the job or not. I have purchased a few parts from them since then, and all has been good.

But find these days it is actually less hassle to build your own, and you also save. It is a pretty easy job these days to build your own as long as you get good quality parts. The last PC I purchased that was built for me by a PC shop, the hard drive had come loose in the PC, as they hadn't screwed it in/inly used those push and twist fittings, so it was bashing about the mother board etc. Real hassle to get them to replace it, as I wasn't going to accept a potentially damaged new PC. WHen building you own you can take you time to make sure everything is put together well and wires are neatly arranged, which you don't often get with PC builds who have to build them quickly.

Two shops tried were local shops which have been round for several years as I have a preference for supporting local if I can (empty shops bother me) and I would find it difficult to courier things because I cant leave my work place during the week.

Having said that I couldnt be bothered with hassle of self assembly out of lack of knowledge of the new bios options, I might just do it anyway. With small people underfoot trying to spend a weekend free to assemble is a little tricky.

Pricespy has bits for 2700, add an Os and labour and local purchase tax gets the 3k

I barely entered the UEFI setup of either of my last 2 machines. Just popped the CPU and ram in, and pressed F11 or 12 to get the boot list menu on the first boot and picked the USB stick.

Only thing that I went in and changed was the OS options to disable anything "legacy" and set it to fast boot since thats the whole point of UEFI over bios.

What you could do is look at the components of a prebuilt one so you know the compatible parts. The benefit of building it yourself, is that you can up spec it for your budget, so you end up with a better PC for your money.eg I find it quite enjoyable assembling the parts, and if you have done it yourself in the past, you should be fine. You may however be time poor with little ones.

3k isn't too ridiculous for NZ bought parts, i7/SLI 970s/16GB Ram/500GB SSD and quality other parts will reach 3k.
