I was just going through a seires of clips and noticed that some home made video clips do play but not very smooth, very stop start / jerky?
from memory in windows media player you can adjust the colour settings yourself ie the amount of blue green red etc, if you goto view->enhancements->video settings orsomething like that, worth a fiddle anyway.
also try a mediaplayer like vlc or media player classic, these take very little system resources so if you've only got 512mb ram and you're trying to play big video files then its desireable to have a mediaplayer thats not ram hungry.
also if they are massive res vids, try setting the zoom to 50%.
