It sounds like you need some codecs. Is this a Divx compressed or a MPEG2 video?

WMV files mainly, I seached for codec that I could download but as it used to work I thought it might be something else.

If you installed software (or anything similar, even drivers sometimes!) they could install new codecs which could confuse Windows Media Player, which could lead to your problem.

from memory in windows media player you can adjust the colour settings yourself ie the amount of blue green red etc, if you goto view->enhancements->video settings orsomething like that, worth a fiddle anyway.

also try a mediaplayer like vlc or media player classic, these take very little system resources so if you've only got 512mb ram and you're trying to play big video files then its desireable to have a mediaplayer thats not ram hungry.

also if they are massive res vids, try setting the zoom to 50%.
