Hi all.

The HDD on my laptop packed up, and yes, despite all the warning I did not back it up. (Sorry mom)
I need to recover some of the data on the HDD.

Any ideas will be welcomed!

Recovery services are $1000's dollars so you are most likely out of luck unless the drive just has bad sectors. Remove drive from laptop, purchase 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter cable and connect to desltop. If desktop detects it then copy off what you want.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

I think the drive is dead ... It only makes a "clunk" sound when it's turned on.Cry

sounds like its just failing to spin up.  Used to happen quite often (like 10 years ago (with 5 years old pc's)), we remedied this problem by jerking the harddisk in a clockwise motion to encourage it to spin, worked more often than not. This was in desktop machines however.  I wouldnt recommend doing this with your entire laptop, instead of paying $1,000's for data recovery, spend $50 on a 2.5inch hard disk enclosure, put your disk in it, then you can give this a try.  No guarantees it'll work as technology has no doubt changed so much, but hey desperate times call for desperate measures aye.
