I have a GTS 250 where the cooling fan has become noisy and now over heats so am looking to replace my video card.

I'm on a AMS Phenom II X4 965 Processor, ASIA M4A77TD Pro Motherboard.

I'm not a huge gamer but like graphics when i use FSX Marfi 2 etc

What's a good price solid graphics card that will be compatible

This looks good but is top end if not over of my budget

a GTX 970 is a very good card (its what I use). But sounds like a GTX 960 would be better for you. its also a very good card, will handle most games on high/ultra. the gtx960 is the best mid level gaming card. GTX 970 is a high end card, with GTX980/GTX980Ti being the best (well theres also the Titans, but they're really expensive....)

quick google of your motherboard, M4A77TD, show it handles PCIe 2.0 x16 so it will support a GTX960 (or 970) just fine.

The Nvidia GTX970 is a good mid-upper range GPU/card.

I have one myself.

However, you won't get the best out of the GTX970 because it will be hamstrung by the rest of your system (CPU, memory etc.).

You really need a CPU like a core i5 (or similar) to get the best out of a GTX970.

Of course, if you plan to upgrade your system later, then it could make sense as a purchase.

I'd agree with the other poster, that something like a GTX950-960 would be a better buy otherwise.

Note: The PBTech RRP of $803 for the GTX 970 is fantasy. They normally go for $530-$630 approx., depending on the model.

What power supply of you have? The suggested cards would use a lot more power than your current one.

Honestly, with what you have and what it sounds like you'd use it for, I'd be looking at a nVidia GTX 950, or an AMD R7 370 graphics card. You can spend more if you want, but realistically with the hardware you have, you won't eek much more out of it, and those cards will play the latest games, just not with all the bells and whistles cranked on at 4K resolutions.

If you're on a budget and live in Aucklabd, I just upgraded my GPU to a GTX 970, so have a Asus Strix 750TI OC 2GB I need to sell, its around 9 months old and never been over clocked...I'm looking for $150 for it if you're interested - it will suit your needs perfectly.

Yeap exact same - condition is sweet as, I don't have the box etc that it came in anymore but that doesn't effect performance, when i get home ill find receipt. Never had any issues.

PCI-E is totally backwards compatible, the 750TI would be unlikely to even max out a PCI-E 16x gen 1 bus
