I have a CPU with AMD 770 chipset in it, my motherboard is stuffed and im looking at a cheap replacement. Would a motherboard with AND 970 chipset work?

What CPU do you have? Your new mobo just needs to match the cpu socket, the chipset should be fine. Bear in mind, windows may not like you changing the mobo and may complain about activation.

I have an Asus M5A97 running a AMD Phenom II X4 955.

So, it should work fine.

I changed the motherboard once, it worked fine afterwards.
