Hi all,

Does anyone in Kapiti or the surrounding areas have an adapter so that I can take the internal hard drive from my old PC and connect it to my new PC via USB to access data as the old one does not want to boot.

Thank you.  I will wait a bit and see if anyone closer has one, otherwise I might take you up on that.

I forgot to mention that it is an old Seagate Baracuda7200.7, currently connected with an older looking cable to an AMD motherboard that differs somewhat in style and connection my my HP with an Intel motherboard and I think a Hitachi HDD.

I just had a USB 2 interface device. Like an enclosure but without the case. Slow but it works. Handy things to have around.

Thanks, yes one of these would work the same to recover some data.

Ok, so a colleague had a casing / dock to take an internal hard drive and turn it into an external hard drive connected by USB, unfortunately it only takes SATA drives mine is IDE.  I like the idea of this as it offers some protection for the hard drive when using it externally, and they are not badly priced, and I will buy one so that I have extra external storage so long as the hard disk works.  But before I do I need to know the hard drive works, it worked when I turned it on, but the Windows files had issues, so I was going to try and repair this with the Windows CD, restarted the computer to boot off the Windows CD (actually turned off then tried to turn back on) and it did not come back.  So i need to check that the hard disk is ok before I spend money on one of these things.  I am desperate to see if I can recover some important data from the drive, but after that, might as well use it huh.

If any one has one locally that i could borrow just to see it would be great, otherwise i might take you up on you offer timmmay, only I don't frequent out that far

I have an IDE external case and am in Otaki Beach. Are you still looking something ?

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, it has been a busy time, is it still possible to borrow this?  I still really need to see if the data I need is on the HDD, if it is and I know it works I will look to buy my one, this giving me extra storage for data.  But for now I just need to get it connected to see if it works and back up the data I am trying to find should it still exist.  I have looked at buying one of these and there are a few to choose from and not bad prices, and I will look harder when I know it works.  How do I get in touch?
