Hi.

I have 3 x 840 SSD's in a RAID 0. I see they are behind on firmware.

Does the Samsung Magician Software Update Firmware?

Can it do this whilst Windows is running?

Can it do it when they are in a raid? I don't want to break it if I can.

Yes I have GOOD backups.

Yes and Yes, but I don't think it can do it while they are in raid.

If they're on the motherboard's controller, make a bootable updater, disable the RAID Array, upgrade each drive, and re-enable the RAID Array should work (I THINK, I'm not too familiar with RAIDs, haven't needed them). If they're on a separate controller, you'd want to plug them into the motherboard SATA ports, upgrade them, then reconnect them to the controller.

The question to ask is, any benefits of updating, or, rather, what disadvantages of leaving it alone.

Not sure about the RAID thing - sounds like they wont upgrade whilst in an array, but I upgraded my 850 boot drive (non Raided) last week.

I rebuilt my PC using a hand me down Asus P6T mainboard, new RAM and i7 CPU. I installed Win10 on the new 850 SSD, and it worked OK. Every so often it would take ages to boot. Sometimes it would not boot at all (and I saw that the SSD had disappeared from BIOS).

I updated the mainboard BIOS (was on original release BIOS) and the SSD firmware (from windows, using magician) and it has been rock sold since (touch wood). Not sure which upgrade fixed my issue, but I'd say it was worth doing.

What sort of issues? We have sold and deployed a hundred or so of them and never had an issue?

This is for 840 EVOs so it may depend on what 840s you have.
