I have been playing with the new Vivaldi browser. Just wondering if anyone else has used this, and what you think of it.

Tried it, did not like it, deleted it. It seemed irrelevant and did not really bring an advantage for me.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I love the Four Seasons but this is about the browser.

(I notice Stu edited my post for layout, which I typed in Vivaldi. If any Big Brothers are watching this, is the browser doing something wrong?)

Have tried it, though it's quite nice, but am waiting for them to get Xmarks working on it. Might switch to it then (though I'm far from a power user), though equally might go for Edge once that'll take add-ons.

OK, thanks for that. I did look for an appropriate forum but didn't see anything that seemed to fit. Apologies for choosing the wrong one.

I've been using it a bit more recently, tried it when it first went into Open Beta and have used it since then (not as a primary browser, but a close secondary).

It's taken Chrome's place as my secondary browser though, and I like the minimalistic look and feel of it.

Firefox is and has been my primary for many number of years.

I have been using it as my main browser for a while now, replacing opera, the only thing that bugs me about it, is I can't figure how to stop videos in facebook etc auto-playing Opera had a setting to prevent this, but I dont seem to be able to find that setting in Vivaldi

You can do that via:

  1. From the top right of Facebook, click and select Settings
  2. Click Videos in the left menu
  3. Click the dropdown menu next to Auto-play Videos and select Off

It's basically Opera 12  with a new skin.  I tried it but had problems  trying to do the same as O12.   It has possibilities   but not ready for show time yet..  Now using Opera 38..

Yep.  Unfortunately they didn't carry much of Opera 12 features across.  I've gotten used to it now..

Sort of, the Blink engine (a fork of WebKit) is a Chromium project driven engine. Both the "new" Opera (from 15 onwards) and Vivaldi, and of course Chrome (from 28 onwards) all uses the Blink engine.

Before 15, Opera used their own Presto engine.

Not asked but just as a general thing: Gecko is the Mozilla engine that runs Firefox. Trident is the Microsoft engine that runs Internet Explorer. EdgeHTML is the Microsoft engine for Edge. WebKit is what Safari uses, and what Chrome used to use.

I used to love Opera 12 and I have been hoping for a modern equivalent ever since Opera became a Chrome clone. Vivaldi look very promising to me, though it still doesn't have all the features I need. I continue to wait hopefully.
