Just had a cheapie UPS die during a bit of a storm in west Auckland where the lightning was pretty impressive for a few minutes and I thought the thunder might just shake the roof tiles loose (not seriously). The $2000 worth of equipment connected to the UPS powered up fine when the UPS was removed (after the lightning had subsided).
Other equipment in the building was fine, including stuff connected to a more expensive UPS and other electronic equipment not connected to a UPS.
The UPS is a Belkin F6S600AUUSB and it was 14 months into its 3 year warranty. The datasheet indicates I should have a valid warranty claim. I'm going to take a 'glass half full' approach and be happy that the UPS sacrificed itself to protect my gear. Other gear not connected to a UPS may have been weakened by the surge.
How does the Belkin Product Warranty work?
Belkin will replace, free of charge, any Belkin Surge Protector with Battery Backup that is defective or expires after protecting your electronic devices. There is no limit to the number of times Belkin will replace the expired Battery Backup during the warranty period.
Any thoughts?
