I need some more Ram for my PC, it's getting a bit long in the tooth but it still does the job (mostly)
Mobo, ASUS P7P55d-e-lx I think, it's got 4 2gb sticks of Ram and I'd quite like to go up to 16gb at least, the cpu is a i7 870, I've got 1 SSD & 2 standard HDDs, I'm running windows 10, mostly used for a large Lightroom Catalog, lots of batch processing.

I don't want to over invest in this 5 year old PC so if I can find some ram just over $100 I'll be happy.

can I add 2 8gb sticks and leave in 2 of my 2 gb sticks or should I just remove all of the 2gb sticks?

TIA, Jason

I'd remove the old stuff and buy two of these for under $120 delivered.

You might be able to flick your old ones off for a couple of $$ to offset the cost.

Lightroom is primarily CPU limited. Unless you can see for sure that it's actually running out of RAM I'd not even spend that $100 on RAM, I'd save for a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. A modern i5 would probably get things done double to triple the speed, with less waiting.

You might be on to something there ram is sitting at about 60% and CPU 80+ when batch processing 50 odd images, I'f I'm going to need a cpu & a mobo I might as well build a new pc and use this as a spare because I kinda want something a bit quieter which is going to mean a new psu and my monitor is a bit small.

Yes you can.

Just make sure you put the RAM in the correct slots.

You have 4 RAM slots = 2 Banks of 2 slots.

Match the same type of RAM in each bank.

Actually checked a little further and the manual lists 16GB as the maximum RAM.

They probably listed 16GB RAM as the maximum since 4GB DIMMS were the largest you could get when the motherboard was manufactured.

However, it is quite likely it will take 8GB DIMMS now. You made need to update your BIOS.

But, make sure you can return the 8GB DIMMS if it doesn't.

Get a cheap Coolermaster Hyper 212 to solve that if you want to.
