Heya!

This is a weird ask.
I need to upgrade a motherboard bios in order to recognise my new CPU (E5-2698 v3 ES) and I can't do it without an older model. So I am stuck with a non working combo.
So is there anyone out there that has an older 2011-3 CPU on a bench that I could hire from for a couple of hours (preferably Auckland North Shore, but hey I can't be picky :) )
Or maybe someone can flash a bios for an Asrock X99 Extreme 4?

It doesnt seem like an unreasonable request. Wow 16 cores, hardout.

Just take it down to a local computer store and ask them to upgrade the bios for you. They should have a cpu that can go in the board temporarily, yeh they will charge you for their time but its probably gonna be worth it. :P

Actually it's a v4, my mistake . 20 cores :) :)

Woah!! I just checked the price for that processor, and it left me feeling feint. :-( I'd be interested to know what the rest of the system consists of, and what it is used for?

Let's say I don't own an oil rig in an Arab country :) . It's an ES (engineering sample) and the system is used for video editing.
Problem was solved in the North Shore PB Tech with $60. Great service!

Interesting. I suspect it still cost more than most of us spend on our entire systems. Do you use Premiere Pro? And if yes, was your system built in time to use the PPBM5 benchmark run by Harm Millaard and Bill Gehrke? PPBM goes up to PPBM7 now, but they don't have results tables any more, (too much work for Harm and Bill) but by heck they are an interesting read. Harm is making an updated version of his 'Monster' as detailed on the PPBM7 site

Together with the lads on the Premiere Pro Hardware forum, Harm is my go to person on building NLE systems. My box is a few years old now, but I was proud to hold 4th place on the PPBM5 results table for about six months, and still have 17th place out of >1300 dedicated NLE systems. I was running my 3930K at 4.4Ghz for the test, but run it at stock nowadays. I'd be pleased to have a good reason to start again, but I don't think I'd get enough benefit for the outlay over my current system.

Interesting! I will definitely have a look. And yes I use Premiere.
$800 NZ shipped, not really that expensive ;)
