Saw them in Taiwan 2 weeks ago for about USD100.  Should have bought one, looking at the prices in other parts of the world.

Very tempting to pick them up, and a couple of them would resolve the "issue" (and I use the term loosely) of the Thinkpad X300 having 64GB of SSD as storage - for those that can't survive with that little (!) on their laptop.

man as soon as i brought my laptop i had to upgrade the 40gb drive to a 120gb. even 64GBs is too small for a laptop IMO. having a usb stick thats 32gb would be awesome, its so small and portable. i think im gona have to get one. anybody knows when the 64GBs are due out?!

OT but I survive with my corporate laptop with 40GB of storage.  Sometimes I take my Thinkpad with me (120GB; previous Thinkpad was 60GB).  I've never had an issue with needing more storage but I don't carry around excessive amounts of cruft, partially as doing so would make it suck if my laptop was lost or stolen -- too much confidential info floating around.

64GB SSD will be fine for me.

Yeah good point. How fast is a fast one? 50mb/sec?

i'm looking at buying one now, but it says it's max speeds +/-8mb/s. i'm guessing this is rather slow

been having a browse and usb2.0 has a maximum speed of just over 30mb/s. average write speeds seem to be about 10mb/s and average read speed is about 20mb/s.

Does the  X300 have a PCMCIA slot? If so then a CF/PCMCIA adaptor and a 16/32GB CF Card is a good way to add internal storage that doesnt poke out the side! Speeds are also pretty good.

I don't think the fact that its USB 2 really means that its fast. They're all USB2 these days but you get slow & fast ones depending on the actual storage technology. But actual speeds? MehIdunno.

like i said the average seems to be write speed is 10mb/s and read speed is 20mb/s. obviously it varies for different units. when i recieve my 32gb stick tomoro i'll test it and post the results.

got my 32gb stick in the mail this morning. been testing it with multiple sizes of file and quantity of files and the average speeds seem to be read:20.4mb/s and write:22mb/s. i am blown away by its performance as it is generic and also was half the price of the only other competitor currently on the nz market. my one complaint would be that it takes awhile to get up to speed however most flash drives are the same. very pleased with my new purchase
