So I am looking at replacing my 8Gb kit with 2 x 8Gb in my gaming PC OR potentially getting 2 x 4Gb low profile RAM to add in as my cooler is overlapping the RAM slots.

I am struggling to find a decent, branded 16Gb kit locally at a sensible price (i.e as close to $100 as possible!)

Most decent speed branded stuff seems to be pushing $200 and all the good deals around $120-$130 on pricespy seem to be out of stock now.

Anyone know of any current deals?

DDR3 is just pricey. Even basic 8Gb modules - the cheapest I could find (brand name) is about $80nzd for a single module...

I guess it isn't going to go down either - longer I leave it, the worse it will get!

Just no need to update MoBO and CPU - will last me a good few years yet, so I am stuck with DDR3

NewEgg has good prices (NZ$115), but they want $35 for delivery, which spoils it a bit

Yep, unfortunately that is just the price of it now. Much like picking up DDR2 and even old DDR now, once it drops out of current production, prices level off and start to rise again.

Keep an eye out for things like the weekly PB sale and put a watch on Pricespy. It comes up every now and again.

I was burned in the DDR2 days ending up spending 3x more for the second set of sticks when I wanted more later than the first lot I got at the time I built the PC. Crazy how the prices work.

Yeh you might find getting a new motherboard and newer CPU might even be worth the upgrade if your ram cost is too high.

I hope not!

I have a 4790k running happily at 4.7 on boost and a Gigabyte Z97 SOC FORCE Mobo so would need to spend at least $800 or so to get an equivalent spec CPU, MoBo and the DDR4 RAM for no appreciable gains in gaming, which is what the PC is primarily used for...

Thanks for the replies so far.

Still considering a 16Gb replacement kit - I have a few leads...but!

Interesting new development:

I took the fan from my Thermaltake FRIO and moved it to the other side of the heatsink (it is designed to take 2 fans in push/pull but I only ran one) and I am running some tests now with it sucking rather than blowing and so far it looks like there is no real appreciable decline in the cooling ability setup like this (maxing around 70 degrees at 4.7GHZ under Intel stress test after 1 hour)

This means I can also consider another 2 x 4 Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro if I can find them for a reasonable price as I can now use the 4th RAM slot on the board!

Found a new, boxed 8Gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 kit - exactly the same as my current. With my newly reorganised case, this will work just fine and give me 4x4Gb.

Looks like I came late, I was going to say Amazon too, the prices are good and shipping for ram is like a few dollars?

edit: I see, free shipping yes I think I recall that too.
