You can open PDF with Word, and then 'save as' in one of the standard word formats. Then you can edit like a normal word document.

I paid Adobe the $25 (or thereabouts) they wanted to convert pdf's to docx's or xls's.

Going to word docs works insanely well - formatting is dead perfect every time. Excel is a little bit more temperamental depending on how the columns were laid out originally.

Just got sick of mucking around with other PDF editors that did a half-assed job.

In theory you can do it by copying a table in PDF, then pasting to word, then using the word convert to table feature, then saving and opening that in excel. Probably messy and time consuming.

There are online converters, but buying something good is probably the way to go.

Here's an article called "How to edit PDFs for free using software and online tools"

"AbleWord is the only free PDF editor we're aware of which will import a PDF and make it completely editable. It's best when importing PDF files that were created in Word, but will attempt to replicate all PDF files. The end result won't look identical to the original, but will be close."
