I've completed an online RMA request for a WD drive that has died within warranty period.

The RMA instructions are for me to send it to Vietnam.

I've read that in some countries you can call your local WD office to arrange courier pickup - at no cost.

Does anyone know how to contact WD locally to do this?

Doesn't happen here.

If its within warranty then the retailer that sold it should be the one sorting it out for you. If they have disappeared then yeah, you have to send it overseas and since you get a "reconditioned" drive back which I have found twice fail pretty quickly I dont bother now.

Same experience here. A long time ago, had a 120GB drive die. Paid about 1/2 of the cost of a new drive sending it overseas. Received a "reconditioned" drive back, that died within a month. Wouldn't bother again unless it's just to Auckland.

On another note, sent a Seagate one back to Auckland in the Seagate shell (very useful for posting drives). Received a replacement back in packaging they specifically say is not appropriate on their warranty page (just wrapped in bubble wrap). I was more upset about the loss of the Seagate shell.
