Not sure if this is the right forum but in the absence of an actual "email" forum this seemed the best fit.

My pet charity has a google account with an email address like admin@charity.org.nz.

They have asked me to set up another one like staff@charity.org.nz.

But I have no idea, and google search seems to imply this used to be possible but now it costs money.

When I try to create a new account, gmail.com seems to be set in stone.

Does anyone know how or if it can be done?

Sorry, I would spend more time researching but they seem to want it quite urgently.

Thanks.

I know this does not answer your questions, but I would encourage switching to the 365 Charity plans.  With 365 you can phone Microsoft for support.....  and they actually get back to you.  Seriously!

Zoho is another option, they offer free email services with custom domains. I use it for two domains, it's pretty awesome.

Does it work with GMail?

Are they using the grandfathered Google Apps, back when you could host your email on Google for free? If so I don't think you can add more accounts, you have to upgrade to a paid plan for that.

You can however add an alias, but it will go to the same mailbox.

If you need another mailbox they need to pay, or move providers.

I do a bit of work here and there with Google apps on my side job, so I know a bit about it.

No, it's a completely different email system. You may be able to kludge something together to forward email to gmail or check Zoho using POP or something, but that wouldn't be elegant.

Maybe one day in the future they could look into this.

If so, would this allow them to have their own email suffix?

It's designed exactly for that.  Existing email could be downloaded manually and re-uploaded using Outlook or similar, or you can use https://www.bittitan.com/products/migrationwiz/mailbox-migration/ for automating the migration of historical emails.

I suspect so. They have had the email address longer than they have had me!

So that's got to be 6+ years.

They are currently using one pc with Outlook, and use Gmail within Chrome on the other 2 computers, all for the one email account. I guess it's getting trickier for them to manage this.

Yes, the 365 option would work well with this.  Outlook works beautifully with the Exchange mailboxes that 365 supplies, and the Webmail interface for Office 365 is a much richer experience than GMail in my experience.

You can still create new users up to the free 10 limit with the grandfathered plan, i just tried it on my domain. Go to admin.google.com > sign in with an account that has admin privileges for the domain >  user > + >add user details.

Well that sounds encouraging. You're my new best friend!

Would you mind elaborating on the instructions a bit as I am unable to follow that.

When I enter admin.google.com into the address bar it takes me to G Suite, but I dont see where to add a user.

You should see that page when you log into admin.google.com, click on Users, then there is a + in the bottom right to add a new user.

If you're not seeing those options, maybe the account you're singing in with doesn't have admin rights. Not sure what you will see in that case, but you will need to find out what account does have the admin rights.

Well, my afternoon went off-piste.

@lsxw20 I def dont see that screen.

I'll ask the manager, but she's been there less time than me so I dont think she'll be able to shed much light on it.

But if I see that screen I'll know I'm on the right track. Thank you.
