Hi all

I recently bought a new Samsung 32" monitor (S32D850, 2560x1440).  I have an issue where sometimes (approx. 10% of the time) it doesn't wake up properly after going into sleep state.  The only way I have found to get to wake up is to turn it off and on again.  That wouldn't be so bad, but I have a dual monitor setup and cycling the monitor power causes the rearrangement of all my windows onto the main screen.

My old main monitor was a Dell 24" (1920x1200). My second monitor is a Dell 20" (1600x1200).  I am running Win 7 and have a GTX 960 graphics card.

I was using DVI for both monitors before I bought the new Samsung. But the higher res meant I had to switch to DisplayPort for the new one.  The other monitor is still using DVI.

One interesting thing I discovered was that if I drop the resolution on my main screen from 2560x1440 to 1920x1200, the problem goes away.  But obviously that's not a permanent solution. I want full res :)

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?  I haven't been able to find anything online as to what could be the problem.  It seems to me the problem is likely to be the monitor, but I can't be sure, and I am fast running out of ways to refine the diagnosis :)

Open for suggestions for things to try before I return the monitor and try a new one.

I like the troubleshooting you have done so far.  You've given us excellent information.

I would suggest update your display drivers, just in case this helps.

Do you have another computer with DisplayPort that you can use the monitor with for a few days?  It might be interesting to see if the issue stays with the computer or the monitor.

Apart from that, Samsung's tech support?

Forgot to mention that I have already done this.  It didn't help.

No I don't. I'll have to try and find a friend. :)

Have emailed them. Waiting for a reply.

Thanks for the suggestions tho.

Here's Samsung's "helpful" response:

The monitor does support 2560x1440 resolution and your video card may support a higher resolution than the monitor however it will still depend on the capacity of the video card driver/s. The monitor is mainly a display that is dependent on the resolution that your computer can provide.

I highly recommend to just use 1920x1200 (which is the recommended setting) for the setup to work properly. Kindly check if you can change something in the video card settings or update its driver/s so that the computer can maximize the 2560x1440 resolution of the monitor.

I guess I'll be returning the monitor...

Sounds like a pretty unhelpful response.

Perhaps go back to them and advise the resolution is not the issue, and ask for the case to be escalated to a Level 2 of their technical support.
