I've had a Synology DS112 for a year or so, and feel that I'm not making as much use of it as I could.  Have a user account setup up for each user in the house, but that only has a static backup of my documents.

Tried using DSPhoto once, but didn't have much luck with the upload tool, so photos are also a static manual backup on the NAS attached external hdd.

Films are mostly also on the attached external hdd, the default 'Videos' folder is empty.

Use the DS Download app on phone to manage torrents which is very useful.

So I think main requirements are getting the photo storage updating whenever someone attaches a camera to one of the devices in the house, also nice to get phone cameras backup up (to somehwere other than OneDrive for space and easy viewing)

Getting the backup of docs more automated, including version backup,

Making videos more accessible?  I tried one of the DS film library apps but it was impossible to play things with it.  No need to transcode, currently view video using Windows file explorer and VLC.

I appreciate guides to DSPhoto etc are all available, looking more for peoples experiences, their own setups.  Not afraid to spend a bit of time tinkering and organising if that makes the whole thing more seamless for other users.

Do you use plex?  That's got a camera upload feature now, which you might be able to use to load the NAS with photos.  Failing that, use something like dropbox from the phone and the nas pulls from dropbox to take a local copy.
