I just received one of the above controllers off Ebay, and I'd like to be able to monitor it's temperature as the can run very hot.

In HP SSA if I go into "View more details" for the controller it does not have the "Temperature sensors" section. It doesn't report an error, the section is simply not there.

I have a newer server with a P440 add-in card and that does show temperature data, and I also have an older server with a P420i (integrated) which shows temperature data as well.

It seems strange to me that the P420i would have sensors, but the P420 wouldn't.

Should the P420 add-in card be reporting temperatures, or does this model just not have sensors?

EDIT: Wasn't sure what forum to put this in, the Ebay card is for my home PC/Server so I put it in "Desktop computing".

For those interested, I believe I have answered my own question.

Google was no help at all but I was able to put it in a ML350p gen8 I have access to and it is correctly reporting the temperatures in that. Interestingly, although it reported temperature when installed in the gen8, it didn't when I stuck it in an ML30 gen9.

I can only surmise that it can/will only report the temperature when in "supported" hardware, which from what I can tell is only Proliant gen8.

Bit of a shame as it means I'll need to crank my fans up to be on the safe side, but since I'm using it in an unsupported non-HP server if that's the only issue then I'm probably doing OK.
