My daughter's 2016 SP4 has this now well known issue... hadn't got round to taking it into Harvey Norman for replacement yet but hopefully will this weekend.

I seem to remember from a related purchase that HN have my details so will be able to look me up in their system and find the details of the sale - is that correct? Otherwise I will have to go find the receipt which would be a pain or impossible.

I never normally get extended warranties, but I think I did in this case as it was a special deal for her school and the price was quite good. In particular the EW offers replacement on the spot with a new one rather than taking it in for repair and leaving you without a device in the mean time.

Now I see that Microsoft are accepting that some of these are faulty and are offering replacement refurbished units. I don't want that =- I want a new one from HN. I hope they don't try and weasel out of their warranty and try and fob me off to MS. If they do there will be words!

Anyone been through this process yet?

Cheers

I had a few Surface Books that suffered discoloration of the display where the glue would overheat, took them back when it happened and got replacements on the spot from Noel Leeming last year.  Tell them you want a straight replacement on the spot and you should be fine.

We've learned the hard way to keep receipts, and we now have a 'receipt box' for stuff we care about.  The receipts are generally in date order of course with the newest on the top.  If we need a receipt for warranty, we actually just photocopy it on the home multi-function printer and keep the photocopy in the receipt box just in case the original does not make it back into the box (yep again an expensive lesson).

There is always some fine print, so if they try and wiggle out of an on the spot replacement, have them show you the exception in the agreement that allows for this wiggle room.  There may well be one for a manufacturer recall.

I've never had to return something to HN, but have to NL with a CGA claim and they did their best to make me give up and go away.  Good luck, and politely but firmly hold your ground if needed.

I now take photos of mine and then load it up to google drive via my phone.  Stores are fine with this as long as its has the invoice number etc
