I seem to have lost my printers somehow. Running XP sP3. There was a crash a few days ago but a reboot appeared to fix
everything - until I tried to print. The printer is missing in control panel and attempts to run the Add printer wizard show no port to select.
A quick look in device manager shows LPT1 is working ok and from Command prompt I can print a directory.

I have tried sfc /scannow (got that from Google) but Windows seems to think my setup disk is wrong or bad (although it shouldn't be).

Anyone have any idea what I can try to get things working ? Thanks.

Remove the windows device driver for the serial port and reinstall it...

If that fails you might need to do a system restore to a previous restore point, or failing that a fresh OS install

Thanks very much for that advice. A system restore has done the trick, printer now working plus an error message regarding the scanner has bit the dust too.  Cheers :)
