why not build one yourself?  its pretty easy just write down the bits you'd like in it, go to somewhere like www.pricespy.co.nz, and see what deals you can get on each part.

you get control over what you're buying, and it's usually cheaper than a name brand.  putting it all together is pretty easy as long as you take things slowly and watch what you're doing.

Budget is everything. Give me your max budget you want and i'll spec you up a build for that price and post it here.

Will you be gaming at all? This makes a pretty big difference in where money is spent.

What is your current graphics and sound card model btw?

No gaming
Budget unsure, as little as possible as anyone wants to do. I honeslty don't have a budget but if I did it bit buy bit then budget wouldn't be to much of a concern.

No specified budget makes it hard to decide on parts, perhaps you could give me the specs of your current computer, so i can get an idea of how much of an upgrade its going to be? CPU, Ram, Graphics card etc?

So i started low, the motherboard has a pretty decent onboard videocard, and its loaded with features and connection options. The case has a 420W psu which should be enough, and i think looks pretty stylish, and doesn't require a screwdriver to mount drives.

Thats C1Shoppingmall btw, which is a pretty popular online shop with good prices.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=325139&lang=en&

I've added more ram/hard disks and memory over time but  it's sound and grapics card is the same.

I like the idea of building a new computer over the next few pays. I would like everyones comments on this weeks purchase. I Case and Mother board. Where in AKL can I buy a good case with power supply. Needs to be able t house CD and DVD writer plus serveral hard disks.

Motherboard, i'm not sure what to look for in a motherboard? any advice here please

I can't find exactly the specifications of that computer, but it appears that its a socket 478 which is fairly old, so those parts i suggested should be a nice upgrade.

Do you have any idea what the graphics card model is? If not, i suggest downloading and running GPU-Z which will give your graphics card model. What does it say in the 'name' box at the top and the 'bus interface' box? Chances are it'll be AGP bus which means it won't work in your new computer, since this has been replaced with PCI-Express.
Your sound card will be PCI, the model of that would be useful too, the motherboard i suggested has 8 channel surround sound support, which could be an improvement over your current sound card. It also has onboard graphics which are pretty good.

I suggest buying all the bits from C1 Shoppingmall, you buy online but you can choose to pickup from silvia park. The case i suggested has a power supply, and will fit all your hard drives etc.
Links to the parts i listed are:
