So looking to consolidate my current ancient iMac and decent-yet-ageing-and-too-big gaming PC into one slick Mini-ITX Machine.

It will be on 24/7 and run Plex and Roon as well as being my gaming machine driving 1440p 144hz output.

Will keep my GTX1070 initially and then sell the old gear to fund a GPU upgrade as well once I have the new kit. Probably a 2070...but a 2080 if I can stretch.

Anyone know if that 9700k will run too hot in this setup? Am I better off getting something like a 8700 instead given that I am not intending to OC this time and could save money?

Do I go all out and get the 9900k?

Thoughts and input appreciated!

You'll be fine for heat with the 9700k on water cooling.

If you NEVER plan on overclocking you could look at saving money by not buying a K sku CPU and Z series motherboard. That said, out of the box most Z series motherboards will overclock K series CPUs.

If you can afford it go for the 9900k. Current PBTech pricing has it for only $80 more and it will give you a decent boost in multi threaded workloads.

Well this is what I was considering originally, but Computer Lounge were concerned that it would run too hot in this setup so recommended against it...

Not totally sure if the 970 pro is worth it over the 970 evo / evo plus but I haven't done enough research into the benefits of the pro, so just typing high level thoughts on that.

9700k shouldn't overheat, it's a rather spacious ITX case.

Yeah that's a good point taking a closer look at the specs...could save myself some decent cash there and not really compromise!
