I have a 4TB Western Digital RAID Edition SATA drive (WD4000FYYZ) in a RAID 1 that is showing a predictive failure. The RAID 1 consists on two identical drives.

RAID controller is an HP B120i.

Since these drives are no longer manufactured, what is the appropriate replacement model that will allow me to rebuild the array without replacing both drives?

WD RE was replaced with WD Gold, which has now been replaced with the WD Ultrastar series.

I would guess that this drive would still be under warranty.... have you checked?

Thanks, I figured it would be the Ultrastar, but couldn't find anything confirming it.

Yes, it is still within warranty by about 6 months. However it has to be sent to WD to be checked before they will send a replacement, so could be over 2 weeks. I'd rather play it safe and replace the drive first, then send the faulty one back.

Where did you get them from ? Return to supplier.

It's our supplier who has advised of the RMA process.

Getting a forward replacement just wan't be an option, so I'm fine with purchasing a replacement. When the eventually get the warranty replacement it leaves a spare which can be used to replace the other side of the mirror when required.
