Hi, before I spend hours googling this, thought I'd ask the experts 😀

I have an older HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SSF that only has a single displayport, and I need to send the output to 2 x TV's via HDMI, (including audio). The PC is basically being used as a simple media PC that will play movies in two other rooms. The HDMI cables have been run from each room back to where the PC will be located.

That's the easiest way to achieve this.

Any advise welcome.

These machines have dual DisplayPorts on the back... so two DP to HDMI adapters?

Also, an HDMI splitter is something you can buy.

I wish it had 2 Displayports, but alas only one.... hence the need to some other clever thingy....

Hmmmm... I’ve sold dozens of those. Oh well.

DisplayPort to HDMI adapter connected into a powered HDMI Splitter unit should do the trick. Examples below.

With DP-HDMI cables it's possible you may run into issues with sound when either a TV or the PC is switched off.

I found this out when I built my PC a few months back and connected my 48" TV (HDMI ports only) to a DP socket on the PC. There is a soundbar attached to the TV. The sound ran fine when both machines were initially switched on. After a while both were switched off. Then when they were powered back up - no sound. I ran a few power off tests and found that although I could get the sound running by unplugging the replugging the DP end of the cable, once one or both machines were switched off, sound disappeared and wouldn't come back until the unplug/replug was performed.

My guess is, from some fairly extensive internet searching, the cable I'd purchased (I don't have any fine probes to actually test it) is probably wired from pin 20 at the DP end to pin 18 at the HDMI end making it non VESA compliant.

TLDR: make sure you get a VESA compliant DP-HDMI adaptor cable.

EDIT: Testing not done with soundbar detached from TV.
