Hi... I have just bought a toshiba satellite laptop... has a yellow 'rca' out plug on the back...
Can i just take an RCA cable and plug it directly from laptop into my tv? and if any, what settings will i have to change to get it to work?

I have tried already but nothing happened... usually if i plug in my PC monitor for example, it just switches automatically...

You switched the TV to the AV input that you plugged the cable in to?

Try doing that then rebooting the laptop, sometimes the external display connection is detected at boot time.

Look on the keyboard for a little picture that looks like a TV screen, it will be over the top of a letter or number on a key probably in the top row or 2nd from top. Hold down your function key and press that. It will probably cycle through a few options until you get to TV out.

Very few laptops ship with standard RCA style plugs on them, generally if it does do TVout it will be S-Video (95% of the time). Is this a new laptop or an older model? Some high end models have TV cards built in so it could be as much a TVin as a TVout.
Who knows, maybe it will be as you hope, but I would say its a 50/50 its a TVout and not something else.

Your a legend Scott!! Just had to hold function key and click it over to TV...
Can't believe it was that easy... one of the downfalls of buying a second hand laptop with no manual i guess...
