I’m trying to assemble my computer.

A few questions regarding power.

I’m using my older power supply for a new build. I’ve got my CPU, RAM and hard drives all connected.

I’ve got my big 24 pin plug connected. What else would I need to connect it and power it up?

There is a 8pin ATC 12V plug but I’ve got no 8 pin plugs in my old power supply, I’ve got 6+2 plugs from the same wire? Is this a must have?

I’m keen to get it tested as the wire work is a bit of a headache

6+2 sounds like its a PCI-E power so wont work on the motherboard only for a graphics card

what CPU PSU motherboard Etc did you get, you will likely need the 8 pin cpu power connector for it to function correctly.

Can't find much about that Power supply and the bit I can recommend to stay away, you should have the 24 pin motherboard power connector, then a 8 pin CPU power connector to plug into the top left on the motherboard, as well as a PCI-E power connection don't get these mixed up, if your power supply doesn't have the CPU connection you will need a new one one.

Okay, so a new power supply needed too.

If I turned it on without what connection would I have done any damage?

No it just won't switch on, your power supply should at least have a 4pin, but this most likely won't work and it isn't recommended to run off just a 4 pin, so yeah I would recommend a new power supply.

So I need a new power supply, can you recommend what I need around 600-760W

dobut it will even switch on

what are the rest of the components in the build? if its a pretty simple build a 500-550w PSU will be fine

Any Coolermaster, Corsair, EVGA or FSP really, if I had to recommend one it would be either of these:

Depends on your requirements and if you want a modular or semi modular one, the ones above are not modular.

If you want a cleaner, less messy build then go for semi modular or fully modular they cost $30 / $60 more respectively.

If you want a fully modular one with a amazing warranty, these either of these will do:

Your old board took a 8 pin CPU power connector so you shouldn't have a problem with your new board.

Judging by what you have I would still highly recommend you buy a new power supply unit.
