I have a Liteon internal DVD drive taken from a PC case.  It is a 5.25" form factor (full height) and I am looking to put it into an external USB drive enclosure.

Looking at PB Tech, Paradigm PC and the like, there is nothing other than 'slimline' enclosures thyat are simply too small.

Looking at Aliexpress I see this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000224752761.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.6d252c8au5UO6h&algo_pvid=bd5116ac-ca0f-4d07-957b-431556e10953&algo_expid=bd5116ac-ca0f-4d07-957b-431556e10953-0&btsid=b4b9a2f3-d9fe-449a-8a4c-dfd5f34bd7d6&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1,searchweb201603_55

Is this worth looking at?  Are there any NZ-based suppliers for this?

Thanks in advance.

instead of a now uncommon enclosure for an old drive, won't it be easier (cheaper?) to get a new usb dvd drive?

I appreciate your suggestion but this is the drive that I have: http://www.liteonodd.com/en/dvd-internal/item/dvdinternal/ihas324.html

If possible I would prefer to re-use it in an external case.  Buying an external replacement is my 2nd preference.

OMG I may have one, it may be old and i'm not sure where it is. I'll have a look... If I find it, it's all yours

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Maybe forgo the enclosure part and just use a SATA to USB cable, like this? Not as pretty but should do the job, and those type of cables are easily available in NZ if you need it quickly.

Fairly difficult to search for a device such as this and optical disk drives are not a current technology....

An update for anyone interested.  Thanks to @littlehead I widened my search and found this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077N2KK27/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The DVD drive has a standard SATA connector set and the additional (IDE) sockets will come in handy.  Ordered from Amazon and delivered in just over a week.  Works perfectly.
