Hi all

 


Need to buy monitors for an employee. What is the best way to go these days? Will be driven by a modern HP laptop in a dock (display port output).

Legal industry, so document heavy.

Is dual 23" 1920x1080 monitors still the way to go?

At my last job (engineering industry) I was provided 1920x1200 24" screens which I found noticeably better for working on documents than 1080's.

I used to run a single 27" 1440p Screen at home, which I found comparable to dual 1080's.


 

Willing to go used / ex lease to keep cost down, but willing to spend what is needed to for a good setup.


 

22 / 23" 1080P monitors are obviously super common and cheap. PBtech has exlease HP elite-display E231i's for $149.50incl tommorow. These match some other screen in the office (shared with another firm in the same industry).

24" 1200P are much more rare (and generally quite expensive new) - That said the exlease Lenovo LT2452p is $138incl at pbtech tomorrow.

27" 1440p monitors arn't typically available ex lease, but office focused models seem to start at $700 new and from around $300 used.

 

 

 

Any thoughts?

What made the 1920x1200 better for document editing?  The extra vertical res?  Have you considered setting them up with a monitor mounted vertically for the document editing type stuff?

I was working as an engineer, so more sceenspace for CAD and large spreadsheets is really good. But yeah, being able to see an extra vertical inch of documents is quite useful.

Hadn't actually consider that, but others in the office do run one screen in each orientation.

I have only tried vertical orientation myself on TN 1080 screens, viewing angles made that setup unusable. Also found the 1080 width narrow for my tastes when mounted vertically...

Obviously the game changes a bit now IPS screen are common.

I got 2x 1200p exlease - HP not lenovo but meh. Feels like tons more realestate than 1080p.

 

100% recommended. I am however now looking at getting a 32" 1440p to replace the laptop screen and main 1200p. There are some good deals around at the moment - $400 or so.

I'm running with 2x 1200p, one vertical and one landscape, I find the extra width on the vertical screen is really helpful when working in Word (or with other text heavy documents). I had a 1080 before that and found it too narrow - when looking at a whole page there was a lot of dead space.

I've got 3x 24" 1920x1200's at work and it's not terrible but I'm trying to finangle an upgrade to 3x 1440p monitors.

 

Home is a hodgepodge of 1x 27" 1440p, 1x 24" 1200p, and 1x 22" 1080p

I use a single 27" 4K which allows 2 full documents side by side. I hate dual screens as I prefer to be straight on and not have to turn my head to view stuff.
