Just wondering if anyone might have any thoughts on the above.

What I would like is just something simple to stack external HDDs, as is, not shucked, in a set of trays, so I can have say 4 or 5 of them. Was thinking of a stack of letter trays, except they're just to big I imagine. Or maybe some kind of stand for holding CDs or Blurays (slide a bluray case in and add a hdd above that, another case, another hdd...). Any thoughts maybe ?

What are you trying to achieve? Are these drives going to be connected to a computer while in the trays, or , you just want a way to store them when not being used ?

I wish.

Would probably have to be a bit bigger, as I want the HDDs to stay in their cases.

3.5in drives or 2.5in drives?
3.5 - find an old VCR tape rack.
2.5 - try a DVD rack - they should slip right in.

Or if you've been around for decades - use an old 1.44mb Floppy disk storage container - every old tech should have a dusty one of them stored somewhere 'just in case' :)

3.5inch. Generally 4/6/8tb disks for backup. I've looked at bluray/dvd racks, which are possibilities, but would have to be small as I'm hoping it'll go on a desk.

I've also got several vertical HDDs, which are ok, its the lie flat ones that spread themselves out a bit. Actually, is it safe to just stand the lie flat ones vertically anyway, would make things simpler ?
