Hi

I have been using thunderbird on my laptop for a while now for my Gmail account.

The last few days it has stopped working.

I deleted the account and thought I would load it on again but it comes up with message of wrong configuration, most probaly user name and password which I know is correct.

Using Win 10 and Thunderbird 78.1.1 (32-bit) which updated in the last few days !

Do you have 2 factor authentication enabled? If so Gmail is secure on the likes of apps. But uses unsecure mode for smtp/imap.

You can't use your 'normal' password. It needs to be an app specific that would have been generated

Title of thread could be better like ' Gmail stopped working in Thunderbird since update ' and also posted in off-topic again

Maybe a admin could move this thread to https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=50 or https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=37

I did a bit of Google search and found this and could be related

Enabling less secure apps to access Gmail

  1. Open your Google Admin console (admin.google.com).
  2. Click Security > Basic settings .
  3. Under Less secure apps, select Go to settings for less secure apps .
  4. In the subwindow, select the Enforce access to less secure apps for all users radio button. ...
  5. Click the Save button.

Yes post could have been better and I appreciate your comments but would prefer that it is left as is in this forum please as I think I can resolve it now.
Cheers

But no, it has it's place. It is something that needed help. And related to a working system. It's not off-topic. It's topical.

I believe I posted that and had no response hence I posted it again in another forum.

It's been removed anyway.
Looks like this is the right forum.
Back on topic I will attempt to sort Thunderbird out later today.
It has been working but suddenly stopped which is weird!!

Thanks all for the help

Try creating a Google app password.

I've been having odd problems with Google Mail for a few days, but the web interface rather than Thunderbird / IMAP. IMAP has been stable.

Are you sure it is not a regular automated check and enable of your previous issue where it had updated and blocked insecure connection methods

App passwords stop this.

I've setup 68.10 several times the last few days with Gmail accounts and OAuth has worked fine. Maybe reinstall a slightly older version and re-try?

If OAuth won't work, as mentioned above you either need to go for an app specific password, or enable access for less secure apps.

Exactly, happens every 4 or 5 months when Google re-set the Secure Apps feature.  Microsoft Outlook too is not considered a 'secure app' by them 😉

There's an acknowledged problem with Gmail, particularly around sending emails.

I have just checked and I am using TB 68.11.0 (32bit) on Win 10 pro.

When I check for updates I get a report that I am up-to-date.

Also GMail works well on the TB version I am using.

I have checked online and TB 78.1.1 (32bit) is available for download.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.
