Hi, anyone else noted that AVG keeps reporting it has failed to contact the update server. If  I manually update it is a hit and miss afair as to if it sees the server. I thought it might be my isp (xnet) but had a client who is on TCL cable ring with the same issue.

Anyone else with this?

Cyril

I found it used to have hiccups now and then.  Got sick of AVGs resource-hogging so have now moved to Avaast myself.

Cool.. Be aware that it looks like you have to re-register it every 12 months.  Still, it's free and doesn't seem to take up much resources.  You can configure it to scan too while your screensaver is running.

Don't be scared by the mysterious nearly unintelligible voice either ;)  'Avaast Database has been updated'.   I was woken up several days in a row by a strange voice.. turns out it was my fiance's laptop speaking :)  You can disable the sounds via the preferences settings.

Cheers,
Grant

I've also had hassles with AVG updates but thought it was another Red Network quirk.

Funnily enough I moved to AVG from McAfee cos THAT seemed to be resource-hogging.

So do we reckon that Avaast uses less resources?
