So hard to decide which forum to post this in. 😀

I've had the same office chair for over 15 years, but Himself needs a new one almost every year.

They all fail in some way.

His latest chair now has a serious lean on it, tips back unexpectedly, and is now designated for destruction.

I don't know why he has so much trouble with chairs, but I think maybe he is too heavy at around 100kg.

So now I need to indelicately ask if anyone here can recommend a chair that will last.

Thanks in advance.

I'm a big bloke (6ft2ish and well over 100kg), and after getting sick of destroying chairs as above I did a bit of shopping around a few years ago and ended up buying a Knight Group Plymouth. Cost was around $650-700 with arms from memory, which with a 15 year warranty compares quite well to a cheapy a year.

My runner up was the EOS Spectrum 3. Pricing was fairly similar from memory, I just decided I liked the above more.

The Herman Millers are .. not cheap.. but reputedly incrediably comfortable. Another option I turned up in my research but a bit out of my budget at around 3k was the KAB Controller, if you've ever seen those uber fancy drivers seats in some busses that look a bit like something out of a space shuttle, it's the office version of that, designed for 24x7 use including by larger people.

My go-to is the Life chair from Zenith interiors - https://www.zenithinteriors.com/nz/product/life-chair - they have heaps of other options as well.

Another vote for Zenith/Formway

I've had a Be Chair for the last 10 years, absolutely wonderful chair, again it wasn't cheap, but quality rarely is....

Another vote for the Spectrum. There are a few variations; I'd recommend the one with a wider seat as it's just more comfortable. I bought one off TM with the standard width and while it's still good it's not as supportive. Generally, though, the thickness of the seat padding is so much better than most alternatives.

Arms are a personal preference, but a number of health professionals like physios that I've spoken to recommended not having them as it allows the (human) arms to relax more.

I'd only heard of these chairs in passing, but became interested in them earlier this week after watching the second episode of this series of Grand Designs NZ as the guy who's house was being built was one of the designers of this chair.

I can confirm this is true. Ironically, the day our redundancies were confirmed was the same day our employer was due to make final payments on our chairs, so they were delivered and we got to sit on these for a few weeks. I really wish we could have kept them.
