Hi there,

I'm considering building a new PC. Not sure if i should go with AMD or save ~$100 and go Intel.
Will I need an aftermarket cooler?
Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated please.
Wanting to keep this as budget friendly as possible. Thanks

How desperate are you for the upgrade ? Hang off a little longer and the newer AMD's will be available.

To answer if you need an aftermarket cooler.

Unless you're overclocking. No. You really don't need a after market cooler unless it won't fit in the case(with the 175R it's gonna be very spacious).

And xpd said. Just wait.

I'd normally say buy the best you can afford, but with new models so close, the waiting will pay off - either a better CPU at the price you want to spend now, or the CPU you're currently looking at, a lot cheaper.

That I would agree. I priced up a friends build because he wanted to move off Skylake a few weeks. We said there were a few options but you REALLY are better off waiting and see what Zen 3 is like because you could have better for the same price as Zen 2 or wait for Zen 2 to drop in price big time, save money and/or spend money else were(like a better GPU) in the build and get a better rig overall.

Thanks for the replies!
Based on the comments i gather that amd is the way to go? Even though intel is slightly cheaper?
I’m in no rush really and can happily wait for the new chips.
The pc will be used for gaming and occasional video editing.

Mind quietly boggling at the crazy world we live in, where Intel is the budget option...

I agree with the others, get a AMD 5000 series cpu and a 30 series or 6000 series GPU. There are features on the new GPU's that will really help performance... Plus more performance for less money.
