yesterday i found that my home internet with SPARK went mad

- in gmail in chrome (latest) - i am unable to click on the letter icon on the right where you can logout, switch accounts

- also gmail won't fully load, cannot search email - it just refreshes

- i am unable to login to many websites (login button greyed out)

- tried on opera, IE, Edge, Firefox, all same result

- sometimes when i type in a web address it says connection interrupted

then GZ told me "Your IP address is rate limited due to too many connections. It will automatically unlock soon."

Am I being hacked in some way?

Have you tried turning everything off and on again, including the router?

rebooting the router (and ONT) did the trick

sorry i was panicking and normally that would be the first thing anyone should do

i'm glad it worked though, even for a few moments of embarrassment

so relieved ...

panicked.

actually i was stressing for a few weeks already bcos my laptop is having a black screen issue when i turn it on, and pressing the power button randomly to make it come alive, and i thought the aliens are in my house. when the router needed rebooting in the past pages don't load, rather than load 99% but one or two buttons are not working

A few years back a router manufacturer had a new "self-healing function" which was basically an overnight automatic restart.

Even today some routers from other manufacturers offer a "Daily reboot" option in settings.

Smiling...when I read the post this morning was going to respond to turn everything off and on again, but figured this is a seasoned person and I’d be telling him how to suck eggs and, what would I know.

Definitely blame it on those Aliens with the brain immobiliser guns :)

yeah i'm still baffled. how would things load 99% and leave 2 buttons inactive every other page. that was really weird. the gods are laughing hard.

Sometimes smart people do dumb things. Everyone is entitled to overlook the obvious one time. I have done it many times.

In Oz Telstra used to push out firmware updates to their ADSL modems.

One update on a Friday night bricked one particular legacy model that was still used by about 40% of their user base.

Required a modem reset and the user password to be re-entered.

Cue a lot of comments from customers who called me in to fix things, "what username and password?"
