With PB having a sale. I may get another 16GB of ram. Forgetting the pros and cons of 16 vs 32GB. What's the most suitable kit to go with my current 16GB (2x 8GB)?

Will any 2x 8GB @ 3200Mhz do or should I be looking at other specs?

My current RAM as per the docket:

"Crucial Ballistix Sport AT ASUS TUF Edition 16GB 1 132.34 Kit (8GBx2) DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) CL16 SR x8 Unbuffered DIMM 288pin For Intel and AMD Ryzen Platforms"

If you search PB's web site for Ballistix 3200 you only get one result, which is also CL16.

The Sport AT ASUS TUF edition is likely marketing fluff and maybe a slightly better heat sink.

If you have any doubts, call PB and ask.

A pair of ram sticks will be fine. Just make sure you put each pair on the correct paired slots of your mobo. They are not necessarily adjacent

Cheers, what's CL16? do I need to match this?

What's the reason for looking for the Ballistix 3200 vs other options?

Getting another pair to match the memory you already have makes sense.  You know it works, so stick with it unless there is a strong reason to loo at other options.  :)

CL16 is one of the technical specifications, and the Balistix 3200 that PB have matches the specs of the RAM you already have.

Are you matching on brand and for no other reason though? Would another brand but with same specs work exactly the same way.

I can see CL16 is a technical spec but what is it? how important or is it mandatory to match

CL16 refers to the latency of the RAM.  I think generally both the MT/s and CL will run at the worse of the two sets if you have mismatching sticks.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the same brand, but probably the most likely to work without any potential issues

sell the set you have and buy a 32gb kit or the other way round.

Batman: https://techguided.com/single-channel-vs-dual-channel-vs-quad-channel/

It's incredibly unlikely the OP has a quad channel motherboard. 4 sticks of RAM isn't necessarily quad channel, it is far more likely to be running un dual channel.

Ideally get same kit, if not possible then same specs down to the same timings. This is the CL info, eg, 16-18-18-32 or whatever is printed on the side of the box.

Because your current kit is single rank you’ll get a small boost by having two ranks per channel if you decide to go 4x8GB sticks. (This is not the same as dual/quad channel, the dimm itself can have multiple ranks, multiple single-rank dimms in each channel nets performance.)

You shouldn’t have any issues running at 3200 CL16, but if you do remember to raise SoC voltage to around 1.1v+ if on a Ryzen platform. Four sticks gets harder to run at high rated speeds so you need to up the voltage a little to compensate.
