Hi All,

looking to build a PC for a nephew who is not a hard core gamer but wants to play games, the budget is $1200 so looking for a graphics card around the $400 price point, can anyone point out a card that is good for around this price. The CPU is going to be a AMD Ryzen 5 3600, with 16Gb of ram.

Thank you in advance

I don't know how he'd feel about a second hand 1060 6GB if you could find one for that price. But it's likely been mined on, so will need heat goop replacement.

Gfx card prices are insane at the moment. I am not envious of those looking for gfx cards.

A couple of lower spec ones on PBTech.
https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAAS16509/ASUS-TUF-GeForce-GTX-1650-4GB-GDDR6-Graphics-Card - I bought this one during lockdown last year to give my ageing PC a bit of a boost.  Works well enough for me.
Wait for a sale, and it should go sub $400 :-)

They were going for $200-300 two or so months ago. Sold my 3gb version for $260, bought the 6gb version for $220. Don't know what their price is like now though.

A second-hand 1070 could be had for around $400 with a bit of luck. $350 was their going rate two or so months ago.

Sorry was late this thread, I have a GTX1070 I'll be selling in about a week, as well as a 6 year old Intel system. I haven't decided whether I'll try to sell separately or as a whole PC. Did you have any luck finding a graphics card?

This thread peaked my interest. I was thinking surely the GTX 1660 was about $400. I paid $433 for one about 12 months ago.

I can play most games on a high (not super high) setting, and it handles its real nice.

I can see they now $699 from playtech.......wow??????

Not a good time to be looking. the 1660 is mid range card at best so anything less is going to age real quick, but if budget is the budget then 2nd hand has to be the only option.

Mighty Ape has a Palit 2060 for $750 odd and that's probably the best you're going to do in this market sadly.

Two year old cards up on RRP. Absolutely mad.

I've got an old ATI card thats reasonably powerful but swapped it out due to lack of newer DX support..... was going to sell it but thinking better of it now, will hold onto as emergency spare :D
