This is the newly severed power cord for a microfilm/fiche scanner.

A close up of the big bit...

Is this sort of thing readily available in NZ?

Jaycar should have what you need.

Something like this: (Just need to check the plug polarity)

Take the old one with you; you'll need to know the output figures, the plug size, and that it's centre positive.

Don't bin it for that, one of these will sort you out: https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/hpm-connector-strip-6-terminal-380-volt-white/p/103017 just cut off the number of terminals you need (two)

There is probably a two terminal one knocking round in the shed or a drawer somewhere already at home. There are only two wires that need to be joined.

You could do solder joins as well, and close it all up with heat-shrink.

I would agree with the folks who suggest repairing the cable. Not difficult and should work just fine.

If I wanted to replace the unit, I would just go onto aliX and search for the actual item (GS60A24).

Where in NZ are you? There may be a friendly neighbourhood geek with a soldering setup who is willing to do it for you for nothing. In fact I'll volunteer if you're in Auckland north of the bridge.

Thanks for the offer, but I am Pukekohe based, so a bit far away.

Himself seems very confident he has the "right stuff" for the job.

If Himself gets stuck, you can sort it out for him.

If he doesn't want to admit to you that he's stuck, I'm just down the road (well, still in Franklin).

For those of you that were up all night worrying about my power adaptor, Himself did a fix on it this morning.

He mentioned crimps and heat shrink and all the other words sounded like blah blah blah.

However, it is working!
