A friend has brought me his laptop to look at ... it has a small 'slash' of black across a small portion of the Task Bar.

Research indicates that this is not uncommon, and that a coloured or white streak is usually indicative of dead pixels.

I have tried all the suggestions ranging from soft rubbing with pencil point eraser, as well as a couple of so-called pixel-fix apps.  Some suggest that black streaks are usually a sign of a hardware fault.

Oddly, the icons on the Task Bar appear normal underneath the streaks, and even the cursor arrow seems to retain its form when 'sliding' underneath the streak.

Anyone got magic cures please? 🤓

Unfortunately it’s likely to be a physical fault that will happen again even if massaging helps a little. Any chance it’s under warranty or maybe CGA?

No longer under Warranty or CGA capable (about 9 years old I'm told).

Yes, probably gradually get worse ... not sure if it is the screen itself or graphics-card-motherboard.

Being down on the Task Bar doesn't present any discomfort at the moment 😋
