Has anyone got older Nvidia cards to work on latest versions of Windows 10?

I have an older AMD Desktop running a nvidia gtx 550 ti card. It did work OK on an older version of Windows, 1908 although occasionally an update would cause it not to run on windows boot. RDP into it and remove the latest updates and it would work although sometimes it would take a few reboots for it to come up. A Feature Update was automatically applied recently as I could only delay it for so long and now it won't boot using the nvidia card at all.

I know the card is good as the PC is dual boot and Linux is fine using the nvidia card. Just Windows has a problem.

I remember something about a problem with Windows and older nvidia cards and the way Windows manages memory on boot changing but none of the solutions I can find work.

Has anyone managed to find a working solution other than updating the PC?

Nvidia driver installs fail in Windows as 'no compatible card found'.

I had to upgrade a bunch of Geforce 7200s because they weren't working reliably on Windows 10. Not sure its an Nvidia or Windows problem but super annoying....

Nvidia has dropped support for a lot of older hardware:

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3473/~/eol-windows-driver-support-for-legacy-products

So if Windows 10 is installing newer drivers, there may well be no support for the old hardware in them.  And the older drivers may not work on newer updates of Windows 10.  It is much the same on Linux - I was able to keep my old GT 220 card working up until a few months ago, but recent kernels do not work with the old drivers that work with the GT 220.  I lost support for my 8400GS several years ago.  So now I am running GT 1030 silent cards in all my PCs (I do not do gaming or anything too strenuous).  But it is a pain to have old video cards where the hardware is fine and does all that I need, but there is no driver support so they are useless except for VGA modes.

I think Nvidia believes all these old cards are dead by now, but mine are all fanless and fanless cards do not die in just a few years, they keep on going.  I have yet to have a fanless card ever die.  And my old laptop with an Nvidia GT 650 is still sort of working - electronically it is fine, but the hinges are dead.
