As  follow on to this,

Microphone for Zoom (geekzone.co.nz)

if you do have a mike/web cam, how do you organise the sound output so that a, the microphone wont pick it up and b, you can hear it.  I was wanting to look at not always using a headset for some meetings.

Each meeting app (e.g. Teams, Zoom, 3CX) allows you to specify which speakers/headphones and which microphone it will use.  Is this what you mean?

All the apps have some form of echo cancellation in them to stop that happening, which works if you can manage to keep only one person speaking at a time.

This is why many discords have a headsets only rule for being in them since people on speakers and mics just screws up things because they all start and stop talking because they cut in and out.

Yeah they can be a burden unto themselves.

We have multiple meeting rooms with a desk mic and ext speakers. People think the other end is quiet, so crank up the ext speakers to hear.

Suddenly the mic them kicks in thinking the sound is local, starts to realise its feedback/not so auto muting/cancelling starts to try work it out.

Before you know it the far end reports the local mic is cutting out

For anyone who is interested in going down the route, I have two Logitech webcams.  They mics on both do a good job with Teams.  Can't comment on zoom.
