Hi all, my desktop pc randomly turns on when i’ve put it in sleep and/or hibernate.
Its done it a few times and at random times.
Recent example was when it was put to sleep last night around 11pm and it turned on by itself around 5:30pm today. Another example it turned on sometime overnight as it was on first thing in the morning.
Is there a way to check what’s causing this?
Thanks in advance

Event Viewer?

Will moving your mouse or keyboard wake it up?

Yip, as huckster mentioned start with event viewer, and do you have a cat? Friend had the same issue and he eventually move one of his cameras which caugh his cat jumping on the desk/keyboard waking the PC up. Could also be a program that is allowed to wake the PC up - check your power settings to determine what is allowed to wake the PC.

I had the same problem recently.

Event Viewer identified the cause... but not enough to actually resolve.  The error I was seeing was related to a driver problem. Finding which driver was impossible. I tried a bunch of obvious ones (GPU often being the culprit but not in my case).

In the end it became so annoying and I'd given up trying to find the particular driver that was the cause I did a fresh install.  Making sure I used the correct drivers for components all from Lenovo (as its a laptop). This is what it took me to resolve it 😞

Hopefully you get to the bottom of it.

My laptop does this all the time, I have to actually shut it down to have it stay off.

LTT did some videos about this and something to do with the various sleep states but really if I have it set to sleep when I close it and its closed then it should never unsleep itself. I use it a lot less with the new one because of this because I have to push the button and wait for it to boot, vs checking something on my phone which does understand what sleep means properly.

Yes under Winodws Logs -> System.

Look for events with a source of Kernel-Power. Any error events from here you want to look at. Then start expanding out from there.  Could even just start with all error events.  Hopefully you'll find some error codes you can start googling.

No error events in Event Viewer. I see 2 Information level Kernel-Power events from yesterdays automatic wakening. Both Event ID 566, but they don't appear to be a problem unless it shows as Error?

The system session has transitioned from 41 to 43.

I did notice a 'Power-Troubleshooter' Information level event which stated this

The system has returned from a low power state.

When i check which devices are allowed to wake my pc using the command prompt 'powercfg -devicequery wake_armed' it shows only my keyboard and mouse.

Best fix is to shutdown , rather than sleep/hibernate .
Its what we used to allways do with PC's :-)
