HP Pavilion a335w
MB: TriGem 2002052 (Glendale)
Socket/Prcessor:mPGA478 - Intel P4
FSB: 400 MHz

Blah, blah - Blah!! - it burnt a capacitor/or relay/stringy straight line or whatever.

Replaced it with:

Asus P4G-LA (Corolla)
Same CPU
Added 512 MB ram to 256 already had. (PC133/DDR-1-333 SDRAMM)
Chipset: 845GL

Note: Drivers from HP only work w/XP

Knowing that a new Motherboard would render the recovery CDs useless, I blindly got a refurbed from an on-line supplier - no Comps-R-Us or anything close around this boony.

So, here's the history;

- Loaded '98 with few problems. (ignore, ignore, ignore, ignore again)
- in Safe mode, added NDIS driver
- run in unSafe
- grahpics inhale
- sound is not
- no www
- add PCI NIC, Had driver on floppy
- WWW! hooray

Installed XP:; -,

- After two or days of restarts (finally hooked up a reset button) XP got loaded
- '98 still working as flawlessly as may be expected.
- Everything works, still freezes in XP- Safe works - ran msconfig
- No freeze w/ driver32 unchecked
- Too many to go through, silly me
- reformat, try again
- flash latest bios from asus
- no luck, it's last week all over
- reinstall '98, it works
- replaced toothepaste with real thermal goop, no change.
- It's not a heat bother
- Try to load Ubuntu again.  it does not. It does frezze.

Being insane

- back to a featureless '98 - works; again -

Detailed PRW and jumper pin visual

- How do I do that?

On a personal note, Sorry to hear that King Gearge is still looking over your shoulder. Long live the truth of Patrick Henrey

Update----- My Conclusion:

This box strongly dislikes anything other than what it's suposed to be. Note: Should have simply purchase a generic slot 478 mother board -howsoever: this is more Fun!  <;(

It deals with Win98 only maybe because I know DOS.  (Honestly!).

Well now since the only Linux Colenel that virtually works id SuSE 11.X, I'm off to linux forums.

Yes, the topic shall always be hpJunk.
