I've had a laser printer for just over2 years now, and the 'replace toner' light came on about 4 months ago.

Since then I've printed on average one page per day (home use), and it is still giving good results .... so why the early warning light??

I'm sure the manufacturer (HP) will say it's to give customers ample time to ensure replacement toner on hand, but does seem a little premature.

And if you were printing 50-100 pages per day, would it be a little premature? Could take a few days to get new supplies, and you might not want to run out.

Your use case it at the extreme edge, so no its not disingenuous

Because the toner is empty and its printing on what is transferred into the printer itself. they don't want that to run out because it can take plenty of failed prints to get it covering the page properly again once you do put toner into it.
