Hi, I am going to build a budget PC for my father-in-law for basically usage such as  internet sufering
and IM etc. and I think the budget is as cheap as possilbe (sub 1k for the whole system). I am
thinking an AMD system with integrated Graphic card should have a much better performance/price ratio
than a Intel system, can someone confirm that and have a recommendation for MB and CPU so I can
start with research and pick parts.

Thanks in advance.

Asus Eee Box B202 PC, Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, No optical drives, No Monitor, Win XP $576.14

This would a great system if your want to keep the power bills low.

Thanks for the great idea, I actually never thought about it. I am still slightly worried about it's performance.
How about a Atom CPU compare to a say Pentium M 2.0?

The Pentium M processor would outperform the Atom for sure, especially when multi-tasking.

In that case, I'll opt out for something else, as it is going to be the only computer for them.

For anybody who is still interesting, I found some interesting article in anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=3563&p=2 for AMD
http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=3528&p=3 for Intel
Both are about $500 US dollars.

Haven't read though the articles yet, but I think AMD is a little better value for the money, and Intel one is
could over-clocked better.

AMD are generally cheaper than Intell. PB Tech have good pricing of ready assembled units with intergrated graphics

that would be an ecumenical matter
