Would someone be able to recommend to me a blog and forum software that does the best it can to prevent stop and remove spam? I am aware of vbulletin wordpress phpbb and others which have alot of open source spam prevention plugins but it is hard to know which does the best job when dealing with spam.

One major feature I am looking for in the software is when I ban a user that all their posts remain because I can choose to remove the ones that were spam but their username avatar signup details ip address is deleted forever so their posts remain but the username will be displayed as deleted avatar blank signup details deleted ip address deleted. There is no need for me to keep their ip address because I do not want to ban a user by ip as they may be using someone elses computer. Those wondering why I would want the username to be displayed as 'deleted' is because a person could register an offensive or spammy username that I do not have in my blacklist and make some legit posts and some spam posts and when I ban a person I want the offensive or spammy username gone

I couple of the blogs I help maintain (on Wordpress) use Akismet to monitor spam, seems to work really well.

Another vote for Wordpress. Akismet is amazing when it comes to spam stoppers, you can't get anything better.

Ah sorry to bring this up, but been playing with this for a few days, and it is awesome! It's called disqus. Mashable, and Sony Insider uses it too!
