Computer specs:

MOTHERBOARD:  Microstar MS-6728 V2  (865PE Neo2-P)

CPU: Intel P4 3.4EE

RAM: 1024

OS: XP Home/Pro sp3 (C drive swapable via removable caddy)

GFX: Radeon X1950 pro AGP

The Problem:

Using a K world PCI card that one day failed to initalise, tried uninstalling drivers but drivers

disk said no capture card found.

I tryed another socket still not seeing the the card, changed C drive and another operating system

still not working.

Tried installing 2 more audio PCI cards, none of these cards are recognised at bootup and

under hardware manager no Yellow question marks

ANY HELP APPIACATED ..... Thanks   Dave

It appears your PCI bus has gone bust, given how both the operating systems fail to detect any of the cards on any of the slots. Well one thing you could try, is reset the BIOS to the factory defaults, although I doubt it'll do any good.

- Have you tried (re)installing the motherboard/chipset drivers?
- Try a Linux live CD like Knoppix, to see if it detects those cards

When you say the cards aren't recognised at boot up, do you mean the hardware list that appears after POST, or do you mean they're not picked up by Windows?

Make sure that the IRQ's and what not are set to auto assignment in the BIOS.

Do you have any existing PCI cards that have been working?

It certainly sounds like you motherboard has suffered a failure involving the entire PCI bus. Given that the board is a 2003 vintage I would say it has given many years of good service but is now only fit for recycling.

As this would also require a replacement of everything but the case and the hard drive, although that would be as slow as a wet week, I would recommend looking at a replacement computer. There are some fairly decent machines out there, or if you are looking at more of a challenge you could assemble your own computer to your own specifications.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

LOL! That is the first time I have ever heard that as a cause of problems in a PC. I will certainly remember it.
