Hi

I've spent an age searching for a NAS that meets what I thought were reasonable needs, and haven't yet hit on anything.  Searching here for ideas from those with more experience than me.

Basic requirements are:
- Raid 5 capable
- OSX TimeMachine compatable
- Gigabit ethernet

Any suggestions?

Cheers
Andy

Have a look on http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/ that site is the go to site for quality reviews and comparison of NAS products imo.

Any of the QNAP devices that support ISCSI will work

I have TS-509PRO Time machine saves to the ISCSI Drive

I think Synology now support Time machine too

I'm looking for a similar specced NAS, but decided to build my own. Instead of RAID-5, I'm going with RAID-Z. Time Machine support provided by AFP support in Ubuntu.

What's your budget? And how many TBs do you need?

I wish I had the skill, and patience, to build my own. Aiming for 4Tb raw, (approx 3Tb available) or larger. Ideally want flexibility to increase size as I need to and drives drop in price.

Once I get my hands on the enclosure, I'll probably document it here. Good luck on yours, though.

Cool
Definitely keen to hear how you get on, what spec you do and how much it all costs you!

synology will support those you've mentioned.
time machine is only available on firmware 2.2 which is still on beta at the moment.
